Construction/Excavation Laborer

This position requires heavy physical duties on a variety of tasks which are generally either unskilled or semi-skilled in nature. Duties will vary depending on the type of work assigned to crew. Laborer can become a specialist within a crew such as a "Top Person" or a "Pipe Layer" on a pipe crew.

  • Digging, spreading and shoving dirt and gravel using pick and or shovel.

  • Lifts, carries and holds building materials, tool and supplies.

  • Cleans tools, materials and work areas.

  • Mixes, pours and spreads concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other material using hand tools.

  • Performs a wide variety of manual tasks including pipe assembly, pipe cutting and laying, removal or forms from set concrete, taking layout shots, directing equipment operators on cuts and fills, etc.

Qualifications

Experience & Education/Certificate:

  • 1-2 years of experience on construction sites.

  • GED/high school diploma or related work experience.

  • Trade school a plus.

  • Valid driver's license required.

Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Must be able to work well independently or within a team.

  • Ability to work efficiently under deadlines and pressure.

  • Ability to keep up in a fast-paced environment.

Dump Truck Operator

This non-exempt position is dispatched to transport construction materials to customer or job site locations. May also be assigned to move construction materials at different job sites. Conducts all work in accordance with policies, procedures, and programs.

  • Makes daily pre/post trip inspections on assigned vehicle in order to maintain maximum vehicle safety conditions and to check for any damaged or work parts or for any signs of tampering.

  • Drives dump truck to destination applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and of roads in the area.

  • Maintains a truck log in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policy.

  • Communicates regularly with dispatcher to ensure that delivery schedule is being followed and that any problems with traffic or with site conditions are reported promptly. Also, gets information on the location of the job site and the locations of any light bridges or roads on the way to the site.

  • Pulls levers or turns cranks to tilt body and dump load from truck.

  • Complies with all aspects of truck maintenance, cleanliness and repair. Includes daily monitoring of all fluid levels and lubricating/greasing joints.

  • Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is preferred.

  • Valid Class B Commercial Drivers License is required.

  • One year of CDL driving in a vehicle with a GVW of 33,000 pounds or greater is required.

  • Previous dump truck experience is preferred.

  • Must be physically able to operate, move about, and maintain a dump truck.

  • Must pass DOT physical.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt to change.

Mental Application:  Must show composure and constraint to drive safely.

Responsibilities:  Error in judgment while driving could result in injury or death to employee or the public. Poor driving would result in a negative perception by the public towards the company.

Physical Demands:  The physical demands required are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Heavy Equipment Operator

This position operates one or more types of heavy construction equipment; such as backhoes, pavers, dozers, trackhoe loader, scrapers, rock trucks, rollers and graders in order to perform various construction tasks such as paving, excavating, laying pipe, moving and grading dirt, etc. Responsible for safe operation of machines, maintenance and up-keep of equipment. CDL is a very strong plus.
Operator Responsibilities:

  • Discusses plans for the day's work with field manager, reviews blueprints if necessary and determines best method of getting assigned work done safely, accurately and on time.

  • Adjusts hand levers and depresses pedals to operate equipment and control attachments such as, blades, buckets, scrapers, and swing booms.

  • Performs equipment maintenance duties such as cleaning, greasing and oiling machines.

  • Utilizes actual years of experience in operating equipment in developing a feel for various levers and attachments and in developing skills such as fine grading and cutting slopes.

  • Operates equipment with priority of making the job safe for all persons working around the equipment. Ensures that other workers stay clear of machine while working in tight places and ensures that there is teamwork between self and other operators working at the project site.

  • Make judgments regarding the most efficient operations of equipment and attachments.

  • Must have very good hand, foot and eye coordination to safely operate their equipment

  • Compliance with NCSI Polices including but not limited to.

  • Equipment repair / maintenance procedures and Operator Safety Standards

Qualifications
Experience & Education/Certification:

  • Minimum of 2 years of equipment operating experience required.

  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) a plus.

  • Related work experience required.

Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Must possess very good hand, foot and eye coordination to safely operate their equipment.

  • Must be able to operate for extended periods of time and to get into awkward positions when cleaning and providing maintenance to the equipment.

  • Requires extensive and heavy physical activity and dexterity.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

  • Must possess excellent communication (written/verbal) and time management skills.

  • Requires specific types of vision: close, color, peripheral.

Jr. Estimator/Project Manager

We are looking for a diligent Estimator to prepare accurate estimates for projects by gathering information and analyzing important metrics. Your will provide knowledge of cost and benefits that support profitable business decisions. The ideal candidate will have excellent numerical skills and an analytical mindset. You must be thorough and apt in managing relationships with key persons. The goal is to provide detailed reports so the company can make informed decisions that will enhance its profitability and growth.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Understand the project/program and its requirements

  • Determine key variables for cost and other estimates

  • Gather first-hand information from sites, warehouses or other venues

  • Conduct research to obtain data on labor costs, materials, production times etc.

  • Use software for data analysis, forecasting and budgeting

  • Obtain and review offers and quotes by subcontractors or vendors

  • Perform risk analysis

  • Create and submit estimate reports or bids to appropriate persons (project managers, clients, bidding competitions etc.)

  • Build relationships with key vendors (subcontractors, suppliers, engineers etc.)

  • Provide consultation on planning (schedules, manpower needs etc.)

 

SKILLS

  • Proven experience as estimator or similar position

  • Familiarity with financial and project management principles

  • In depth knowledge of research and data analysis methods and estimation formulas

  • Exquisite math and IT ability with an analytical mindset

  • Proficient in relevant software (Agtek, HCSS HeavyBid)

  • Outstanding communication and negotiation abilities

  • Thoroughness and reliability

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • BSc/BA in engineering, construction science or relevant discipline

  • Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) will be an asset
